Working Dogs For Warriors is a California 501(c)(3) Non Profit Organization, Dedicated to helping our Nation's Warriors by Training and Donating Service dogs to Veterans and First Responders. 

Working Dogs for Warriors was established in 2016 under the original name, My Gunny Bear Cares, Corp. It was established to honor those who have dedicated their lives to serving our community and country. Before the organization began, the founders Michael Welsh, Daisy Welsh and Daniel Gamboa had envisioned using service dogs to help those in need in our community including our military and first responders. With a passion for working dogs and a drive to serve our community, Working Dogs for Warriors was formed!  

Big visions required big leaps of faith! The founders put together a game plan to move the organization forward and the Articles of Incorporation were quickly accepted by the State of California in July of 2016. Unfortunately, during the same month our youngest founder Daniel Gamboa passed away causing every vision for the organization to end. Michael and Daisy were too broken to continue. However, it was then that the very same people the organization had envisioned helping came together for our family and reminded us why we started the organization – to honor those who spend their lives serving our community and country! Our hope was lifted and the drive to move the organization forward was now stronger than ever before. Together, we took a bigger leap of faith to keep Daniel's legacy alive and show our community the kindness and strength in Daniel's heart. With God at the center of our organization, we have reached multiple milestones and are just getting started! We thank everyone who helped save our family. You are true warriors in our hearts and we know Daniel is still with us.

Meet Our Founders

Daisy (Executive Director) is a retired First Responder who devoted her career to public service as a 911 dispatcher. Through her experiences, she witnessed firsthand the impact of PTSD and the profound difference a service dog can make.  Daisy now focuses on further development of our company and  chief puppy cuddler extraordinaire

Michael (President of the Board, Lead Trainer) has the privilege of serving as our lead trainer, focusing on assisting our warriors in establishing strong, lasting bonds with their trusted K9 partners. With a deep commitment to both the dogs and the individuals they serve, he guides each team through the training process with patience, compassion, and purpose. Michael believes that a service dog is more than a tool—it’s a lifeline, a companion, and a path toward renewed confidence. His dedication ensures that every warrior and every dog grows together, building a partnership rooted in trust, understanding, and shared strength.
