Kennel Technician

Job Description:  

Kennel technicians will be performing basic care, bathing, and training that meets the standards of WDFW (Working Dogs for Warriors) for all dogs in our care. Techs are responsible for cleaning bathing, dog rotations, feeding, and daily upkeep of the facility.


Techs will also be responsible for greeting guests during intake and departure of dogs for both the public and PAWS program. 


Job Duties:  

  • Provides positive care and training to dogs in care. 
  • Can conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner even when stressed and/or focused on individual tasks. 
  • Responsible for animal identification and record keeping. 
  • Has the ability to communicate with coworkers in a timely, descriptive, and efficient manner. 
  • Can follow a regular schedule for cleaning and sanitizing equipment, kennels, yards, and related areas. 
  • Ensure animals receive proper food and water on an appropriate schedule. 
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the property including waste disposal, light maintenance of landscape (trash removal) upkeep and general building maintenance. 
  • Able to recognize and report unsafe conditions for dogs and staff members. 
  • Perform light grooming on dogs including baths, brushing, some trimming, nail clippings, eye and ear wiping, etc. 
  • Administer medication as needed. 
  • Can recognize and report any unusual condition or abnormal behavior. 
  • Cleans equipment and facilities using chemicals and supplies; understands the importance of safety of use of chemicals in our facility. 
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the facility each day. 
  • Understands and carries out the daily, weekly, and monthly chore list to maintain the cleanliness of the facility and equipment. 
  • Understands and carries out oral and written directions. 
  • Assist other employees as needed. 
  • Train with dogs in a positive way on a daily basis. 
  • Understand the behavior and training requirements for service dogs. 
  • Participate in all staff and training meetings. 
  • Maintain constant vigilance regarding open doorways that could allow pets to escape from the facility. 


Under direct supervision of the lead trainer 

  • Responsible for filling out training logs and performing evaluations on WDFW dogs. 
  • Responsible for transporting dogs to appointments. 
  • take dogs on field trips in public to train, only when instructed by our lead trainer. 


Requirements:  

  • Have a genuine love for animals and interest in animal behavior and training Able to manage projects and responsibilities with minimal to no supervision. 
  • Able to stay organized while working on multiple projects and tasks. Possess strong time management and problem solving skills. 
  • Able to follow instructions and maintain a positive attitude while working with their team and other employees. 
  • Can conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner even when stressed and/or focused on individual tasks. 
  • Able to maintain a friendly, positive, and professional attitude while interacting with clients. 
  • Is able to be assertive in regards to WDFW dogs, and their care. 
  • Is able to take initiative. 


Work Environment/Physical Demands:  

  • Be able to stand, walk and move for long periods of time (may be required you be on your feet for long periods, may have to bend over a lot throughout the day) 


Working conditions: 

  • May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. 
  • May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases. 
  • Able to lift up to 70lbs (may be required to lift dogs, crates, bags of food, etc.) 


Pay:

Compensation depending on experience

 $16.50-$20.00/hour
